LOCAL SCHOOLS WILL OPEN WEDNESDAY
The Whitewright schools will open next Wednesday as scheduled, Supt. W.C. Cummings told The Sun this morning.  The remodeled high school building will
be ready for occupancy on opening day, and will accommodate all grades from the seventh through twelfth.

Three church buildings will be used for the first six grades pending completion of the grade school building.  The first and second grades will hold classes in the Presbyterian Church, the third and fourth grades in the Baptist Church, and the fifth and sixth grades in the Methodist Church.  The daily schedule of classes will be from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Opening day schedule will be shortened, however.  No lunch will be served opening day, Mr. Cummings said, but the lunch room will begin serving on Thursday.

NEW TEACHER
Burgher Reed Vestal was elected to membership on the high school faculty at a board meeting this week.  Resignation of J.J. Petrash as principal and promotion of S.T. Montgomery to that position left teaching vacancy in the high school, and Mr. Vestal is to fill that place.  He will teach social sciences and mathematics.
Mrs. John Hughes was elected to replace Mrs. W.M. Gates, resigned, on the lunch room staff.  Other members of the staff are Mrs. Earl Benson and Mrs. Harold Thornhill.
Bus drivers were all reelected, including Joe Miller, Ray Lumpkins and S.D. Blackerby.

SCHOOLS WILL OPEN MONDAY MORNING
It is definite this time.  Supt. W.C. Cummings said this morning that the Whitewright schools will open Monday morning.  Opening was announced in last week’s
paper for September 12, but had to be postponed because workmen didn’t get the high school building ready at that time.  Classes will being at 8:45 each morning.

Mr. Cummings said that the lunch room would serve meals Monday.  It is located in the American Legion home pending completion of the grade school building.
The first and second grades will hold classes in the Presbyterian Church, the third and fourth grades in the Baptist Church, and the fifth and sixth grades in the Methodist Church.  All other classes will be held on the campus.

NEW TEACHER
Mrs. Earl Blanton will replace Mrs. Nan Dyer as homemaking teacher in the high school, it was announced today by Mr. Cummings.  Mrs. Dyer asked to be released from her contract in order that she might accept a more lucrative position with the Post (Garza County) schools.  Mrs. Blanton taught homemaking here during World War II.
