Thursday, November 18, 1971 pg. 6 FURTHER AFFILIATION FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS Graduates Can Now Enter Any University in the United States. Further recognition of outstanding advantage and merit has been secured by Superintendent H.L. Durham for the Whitewright High School. He received notice this week that the high school has been placed on the accredited list of the Association of Colleges of the Southern States. This is an announcement that greatly pleases Mr. Durham and his associates, and a recognition for which the whole community will be thankful. A graduate of the Whitewright High School can now enter, without examination, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, or any other university in America. As an indication of the exceptional position in which this membership places our school, it may be recited that of the 590 State affiliated Texas schools, only about 60 have been recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges. The north Texas schools included in that list are Bonham, Denison, Farmersville, McKinney, Greenville, Denton, Gainesville and Whitewright. The Whitewright High School has enjoyed full affiliation with the higher institutions of the State for several years, but one of the tests for affiliation with the national organization is the class of work done by high school graduates in their college work. In this connection it may be remarked that more than 85% of the graduates of the Whitewright High School attend the higher institutions and that no failures have been recorded.
