The
school was named for two prominent families of early settlers in
Grayson County. The schoolhouse was located inthe town of Sadler;
the town was named for J.A. Sadler. Sadler was a town on the M.
K. & T. Railroad line.
"Sadler has been granted $27,569.00 from the Federal Government to be matched by the school district #72, for the erection of a new school building. The authorization calls for demolishing the fire-damaged building, salvaging the brick and constructing the new building. Twenty-nine workers are to be employed. Sadler's building was destroyed by fire last spring. Although invitations were received by the district to send their pupils to various nearby schools, the authorities declined all of them and lost only three days from work while they convered the gymnasium into class rooms. Work was then resumed and continued uninterrupted until the close of school. The same arrangement is being persued this year. J.Y. Umphress is superintendent of the school." Sadler and Southmayd schools consolidated in 1960. The High School was at Sadler. Grades K-8 were taught at Southmayd.Whitesboro News Record October 20, 1939 Sadler School History Schools Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson CountyTXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
