The Carr's referred to the eight acre campus as The "Girls' Home". The college opened in 1894 in Sherman, Texas. Up until 1929, the enrollment and finances of Carr-Burdette College peaked, stabilized, and then began a slow decline. The college was closed in 1929. In 1939 the property was sold and the two brick buildings were razed. The school was conducted by Mr. and Mrs. Carr until Mrs. Carr's death. It was then taken over by the Christian Churches of the state. Mattie
