A
private school in Whitesboro was taught by Euler B. Smith and James M.
Carlisle in the 'old long school house." When the Shiloh
Baptist
Institute was discontinued in 1878, Carlisle obtained the use of one of
the Shiloh buildings. With the aid of Smith, they conducted
the
Whitesboro Normal School. Other faculty members were Lizzie
March and Myra White.
Over one hundred students attended the Normal School each year. The school suspended operation in 1888 when Professor Carlisle accepted the superintendency of the Corsicana school system. source: An Illustrated History of Grayson County Texas by Graham Landrum, 1960, pg.104 Whitesboro Normal School History Schools Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson CountyTXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
