DEDICATION CEREMONIES
A few weeks ago the Mothers' Club of the Washington school determined to place on the school grounds a modern drinking fountain which was to take the place of the dippers and buckets.  A committee was appointed to raise the funds.  This was done by contributions from the patrons and well wishers of the school.
The foundation, which has been placed on a concrete base was presented to the school on Friday last.  Quite a pretty program had been prepared by the committe.  The children carrying American flags, marched from the building and arranged themselves in circles around the fountain, which was artistically draped in American flaggs.  They then sang "The Star Spangled Banner," while each stood covered.
Mrs. James Rhea, president of the club, was the first speaker.  In a splendidly prepared address she outlines the liberal policy which should be applied by the people of Denison to their schools, and called attention to the necessity of a new building.  In conclusion she presented the fountain to Miss Johnson, pringipal of the Washington school, who accepted it in a pleasing and graceful manner and in turn presented it to Mrs. A.L. Knaur of the School Board, who had been selected by that body to represent them on this occasion.  Mrs. Knaur, who is one of the leading club women of the State, is a strong and forcible speaker.  She accepted the fountain on behalf of the School Board in a splendid address which especially appealed to the children.
E.J. Smith, as a representative of the city government, was next introducted.  He spoke on the dignity and efficiency of public education and pledged his s upport to the new school building, which he believed would soon offer relief to the crowded condition found in the city schools.  Mr. Smith, who is one of the most agreeable speakers of North Texas, was listened to with marked attention.
Superintendent Hughes offered some remarks on the growth of the public schools, after which the exercises were closed by singing the fountain song.
The Washington school is the first of the city schools to form an active and efficient mothers' club.  The Gazetteer congratulated the Washington school on taking the initiative in organizing such a club and hopes to see a similar organization in each of the city schools.

NOTE: The Mothers' Club was a precursor of the P.T.A.
