Sherman, Texas When
the Washington school was torn down recently, most of the bricks were
put back in this same old quarry. This school has at various times been
the home of the High School. It has only had three principals, Mrs.
Collins, Mr. South, and Miss Mattie Pullen. The contractors who built the building the first time were Ritnour and Wood, and Wentze and Wood this time. Although both were named Tom Wood, there is no relationship between them. Washington School had the first Juvenile Band and first Harmonica Orchestra in Sherman. In the spring of 1928 it was torn down and replaced by what is probably the most modern, best equipped, and most beautiful building in Sherman. Sherman Schools by Mary D.
