My Voyage on the SS  (37)
"Red Sails in the Sunset"

Friends, tonight we are going on a dream voyage on our "Dream Boat."
Please let your imagination run wild for a little while. Every one ready? O.K. Let's go!

After much preparation we left Tioga on the morning of April 13th, 1937, headed for New York City.  In New York City Sinclair Mullins met his old friend Benny Goodman and after much persuasion on the part of Benny, Sinclair accepted a proposition to leave the Dream Boat to play in Benny's orchestra.  Of course, Sinclair would have to see if Benny's orchestra could play jazz, for you know as well as I do that Sinclair would never want to get mixed with a symphony orchestra.  The song chosen for his audition was a jazzy little tune entitled, "Business  in F7."
From New York we proceeded westward to Wyoming where the girls in khaki caught the romantic eyes of Jack Hall and persuaded him to stay with them.  So, he left the Dream Boat in order that he might help the girls of the Golden West sing somewhere in old Wyoming.
From Wyoming we proceeded westward to San Francisco from which place we sailed out of the Golden Gates in the direction of the land of dreams.  As we started for the land of dreams, Junior Riley decided he would rather stay in San Francisco.  So we lost another member of the party on the Dream Boat.   As we sailed out of the gates, we noticed the sun slowly sinking in the west, the direction in which we are sailing.  When we left, every one had the same thought - - - - "Goodbye Blues."
Every one on deck seems to be quiet, when suddenly a tiny speck is sighted by the first mate - - - Land, Hawaii, beauty, romance.  What more could one ask?"
...ment in love by her lover, J.D. Matthews, who jilted her to work in a date factory.  Thus ended the career of one of the party of our Dream Boat.
Then we sailed across the Mediterranean to Spain.  Here we left Mary Evalyne Bell working in the ticket office at a bull fight and Thornton Lee Flemmons, a star reporter for the Associated Press during the Spanish War.  Will Mr. Flemmons please tell us how he gets news for the Press?
After going through the Strait of Gibraltar, we proceed to merry Old England, where we immediately journey to the Stratford-on-Avon.  There to our utter surprise, we find our old student of Shakespeare, B.C. Cheatham, chief gardener for the old estate of our beloved poet and dramatist.   As B.C. was tending the poppies, he became a popular song writer and wrote this song - - - "When the Poppies Bloom Again."
We went on to the castle and there we found Naomi Allen, the girl who loved England, as the private tutor for the King's child.  So we lost 2 members of the party on the Dream Boat.
From England we went to the West Indies where we left Dorothy McCollum to become a stewardess on the Consolidated Air Lines.  Dorothy told us that she hated to leave the Dream Boat but it had to be done.
We journeyed from the West Indies to Dallas and Clarence "Sonny" Woodall decided to stay there and work for the Chevrolet Company.  "Eyes of Texas"
...we saw a lonely figure walking down the Boulevard weeping.  As we drew nearer, we decided this figure was June Lemaster, Cloyce Gordon's old flame.  She replied that she was sad because she had to leave the rest of the Seniors of '37 in other countries and come back home alone, then when she got back, she found that Cloyce is already married and has 3 children.  So, as a result, she was broken-hearted.  "Boo Hoo"
So, friends, ends our voyage on the Dream Boat.   Speaking for the Junior Class, I say that we hate to see the Seniors leave Tioga High and we wish them goodbye and lots of good luck.  "When My Dream Boat Comes Home."
