When Reverend J. M. Binkley came to Sherman
in 1853, it was a tiny village just in the making. There, on the same
corner where the Travis Street Methodist Church is located now, was
then a rude building called Taylor's School. Reverend Binkley tells how
he went to school there in 1854. He was just a boy growing up, and in
this building with him approximately one hundred other students learned
their "reading", "ritin", and "rithmetic". Among these students were
Jesse Loving, Ed Moore and his wife, and Tom Richard's wife, Julia
Shannon. Sherman Schools by Mary D. Fleming Schools Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any links inoperable, please send me a message. |
