Stinnett School #12 was named
for the Stinnett family who were land owners of an estate near the
north line of the John Williams Survey #1302. It was bound by Lovejoy,
Range Creek and Sperry.
Three teachers who taught in the one-room school were Tom Tarpley, Alma Tarpley and Maude Green. Tom and Alma Tarpley were from the Ethel Community. Typical lunches taken in tin syrup buckets consisted of biscuits, sausages, ham, baked yams and fried rabbit. On the last day of school, parents came and participated in a game of ball. Stinnett School was one of the first to consolidate, becoming part of the Sperry School source: Grayson County History Volume II Section 1, pg102 Schools Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any links inoperable, please send me a message. |
