remain open and we had only 33. So, after 3 days at Starr, I began at
McDaniel Junior High. That was a real culture shock after years of 3
and 4 students in my class - I could not see the floor for the
students, let alone find another class every hour." |

Starr donated land for the first school. It was a one room building
where they had school during the week and church on Sundays. In 1925,
South Gale, Starr, and Dripping Springs were all one school district -
all three schools got new two room buildings that year. The old school
(one room) was moved a little south of the school building and began a
full-time community church, which burnt in 1928" |

was almost Christmas in 1925. Mr. Hamilton sent Fat Work and me to
get wood - it was cold and windy. We decided for the heck of it to fix
his car . . . we took two wood chips and put under two of the coils on
his Model T. He went out to start it up - it would fire one and miss
one . . . he worn himself and the battery out. When we came back to
school after the first of the year, he called Fat and me back in during
recess --- He told us next time to get all four of them."
