The Sunday Gazetteer
Sunday, June 27, 1897 pg. 4 Death of Norma Johnson Editor Sunday Gazetteer The Sisters of St. Mary received the sad intelligence Sunday morning of the death of little Norma Johnson which occurred at Chicahsa, I.T., Wednesday, June 16, at 9:30 p.m. Those who attended the commencement exercises of St. Xavier's Academy on the evening of June 10th, will doubtless remember little Norma Johnson, the three-year-old baby of the class. Her cute rendition of a little bird, and sweet manner won applause and bouquets. Hers was considered the best selection on the program by many, if not the entire audience. She left for home on the following morning, in company with her sisters, who were pupils in St. Xavier's Academy, and where she herself had been since the first of November. She had been suffering with a slight cold, which developed into bronchitis, followed the following Monday by inflammation of the stomach. Death relieved the little one of her suffering Wednesday. She was buried Thursday, just one week from the night she won the hearts of all present in the opera house. How little any one thought that she, like the little bird, would "spread her wings and fly far, far away." Little Norma was the pet of the Sisters and loved by the boarders and day pupils alike. The angel of death seeks out the fairest and sweetest of earth's flowers to transplant, leaving lone and desolate the hearts of loved ones, and our little Norma was early chosen, and will be sadly missed. Little Norma is dead; Our darling is gone; Her sweet, pure spirit fled In life's early dawn. Those who saw her in the closing exercises will softly say good-bye little Norma; may you rest in peace.
