Prairie
View School was a two-room building located about 3.5 miles southwest
of Southmayd. At times the enrollment was high enough for two
teachers. At other times enrollment merited only state funds
for one teacher.
Miss Veda Perry was the last teacher at Prairie View, teaching during the late 1930s and early 1940s. She boarded in the Joe Myers home across the road from the school building. When enrollment could no longer support a teacher, Miss Perry taught at Sperry School in an adjoining district. Some of the pupils transferred to Sperry School. However, most of the students transferred to Southmayd. Some families living in the Prairie View district were:
