 The Denison Press May 24, 1946 SCHOOL SALARIES TO BE TAKEN UP BY CITY SCHOOL BOARD Part of the major work to be taken up following agitation about salaries for school teachers, the local board will go into the matter of what pay to grant and how the allowances for such purposes may be equitably distributed this week, it is announced. A petition asking that such a program of budgeting be entered into at once will come before the board. The petition, drawn Thursday at Peabody School during a meeting of elemetary school teachers in a meeting of the Association of Childhood Education, calls for a schedule which will pay elementary and high school teachers with the same training and experience on an equal basis. It also included a request that a minimum salary schedule apply to both high school and elementary teachers. The school board will also discuss plans for the closing of school, which will necessitate the election of teachers for next year and the fixing of salaries. Teachers are elected on a one-year basis with the exception of those in the athletic department.
