The Oxford School ca1915 by Steve Coker Zeph and Zora Binion deeded one acre of land located on the southwest corner of their farm to "E. P. Gregg, County Judge and his successors in office for public school purposes" on October 16, 1885. They school may have been in operation prior to this, and I do not know the year it was closed or consolidated, but two of my aunts attended, one born in 1909, living today. The building was a typical "one room schoolhouse" of its time, and I have heard served grades one through six. In this building was all the education that a lot of these children ever received. Many became "sweethearts", and many lifelong partnerships were formed here, as in the case of my grandparents. . . . If you would like to know where the Oxford School was located, take Binion Road south of Pilot Grove, turn right on Taylor, left on Anderson, go south one half-mile. There is a lane to the east.
