SHERMAN
North Texas College
North Texas College furnished Sherman with nearly all of its society entertainments during the week just past.  In fact, the art studio was thrown open Saturday afternoon, and remained open until the closing exercises of that institution.  During the week it was visited by hundreds of the citizens of Sherman and by many from outside towns and cities who were here to attend the exercises.  Under the inspiration of Miss Fowler the studio was transformed into a charming place.
Punch served from a stand where a number of dainty maidens politely did the honors was a center equally as artistic as any of the other attractive parts of the exhibit.
The Craycroft-Stinson honor, an enamel pin, was given to Miss Willie Mothershead, Stephensville, Texas, for drawing.
Hall Furniture Company's honor, an enamel pin, was given to Miss Bertha Miller, Minden, Louisiana, for best work in painting.
Second choice of the judges for painting, Miss Annette Hardwicke, Sherman.
Honorable mention for improvement - Miss  Lucy Eskridge, Winnsboro, Texas; Miss Molly Ashley, Italy, Texas; Miss Pearl Smith, Sherman.
On Monday morning the annual meeting of the Alumnae Association was held in the parlor of the Lois Thompson Hall.
After the business session the custom of drinking a pledge of love and loyalty to the dear Alma Mater was carried out.  Mrs. Key gave the first pledge, and the loving cup was passed by Miss Barry, president of the Alumnae Association, and Miss Mary Speer, president of this year's class.  While the cup went 'round, short talks and brief toasts were given by members of various classes, Rev. Binkley, the senior member of the Board of Trustees, closing the remarks with a delightful informal talk.
Auld Lang Syne, always the last thing on the alumnae program, marked the end of the session.
In the evening the Senior class was given a 6 o'clock dinner by Mrs. Lucy Kidd-Key, president of the college.  For this occasion the spacious dining hall was decorated in a color scheme of red and green, a centerpiece of smilax being on each table.  All the guests of the college, as well as the remaining students, together with a few invited guests from the city, made up the party.
It has been the custom of every class graduating at North Texas College to present Mrs. Kidd-Key, the president, a handsome present.  In times gone by, this has taken shape in handsome vases, valuable pins and brooches and other valuable and pretty keepsakes.  This year, however, the class unveiled a monumentin honor of Mrs. Kidd-Key, and in memory of the class of '08.  The monument is a handsome granite shaft, placed on a beautiful lawn.  Appropriate exercises were held at the unveiling Monday afternoon.  Miss Mary Speer, president of the class, delivered the address on the occasion.  Dr. Steele also delivered an appropriate address.
Several musical recitals were given during the week.  These were open to the public and were well attended.
