The Whitewright Sun
Thursday, November 6, 1941 pg. 1 NEGRO SCHOOL TO GIVE PROGRAM The WHitewright Negro Grammar School has entered its fifth week of activities and is progressing splendidly, considering the number of children who were compelled to be absent due to farm work. Interest was created to the highest when the pupils entertained with a Halloween program Friday night. Several prizes were given, among them being one for the "spookiest costume." The choral club, under the direction of Anna Belle Douglass, is making preparations for several renditions which we hope to present in the near future. In commemoration with one of our great American days (Armistice Day) the choral group will present a very colorful pageant, "In Praise of Brotherhood," Friday night, November 7. We take this time to invite our friends, both white and colored. The hot lunch project has been in operation for 2 weeks and thus far everything hans worked out nicely. We will welcome any contributions from the community in keeping our project open. The project has fed between 30 and 55 children each day, and this number will be increased to an average of about 70 children each day when all the farm work has been completed. We wish to thank our many friends for their contributions.
