Macomb School was named for the Macomb family that settled in the area southeast of Whitesboro, Texas. A
tract of land was given for a school, church and cemetery with the stipulation that if/when the school and church should cease to function, all the land would be used for a cemetery. The original school was a one-room building. A two-room building was erected for the 1919-1920 school term. Drinking water was carried from the well of a nearby farmer, Mr. Hall. Eventually a well was dug on the school grounds. In 1925, a windmill was purchased. The school building was in the W. W. Rich Survey No.1341, located at the north end of Macomb Cemetery. The enrollment dropped until only one teacher was needed. The school was consolidated with Whitesboro in 1939.
