Miribeau B. Lamar. The first Lamar school was built in 1890. Mirabeau was
the third president of the Texas Republic ..... He came to Texas as a volunteer
and joined Sam Houston's Army then went on to become president in 1838.
He had a deep interest in the public school system and urged Congress to
