Jernigan School
District #49 was located three miles southwest of Sherman; bound on the
west by Providence, on the south by Ida and on the east by McCollum.
The school house was in M. Clement survey on J. T. Piles land.
The first school was a one-room building. A second school was built further west on a hill. Jernigan was named for a local family. Water was carried from a well some distance from the school near a creek.
