The Ida School building was located on the McDaniel Survey No.790 in the town of Ida, Texas. The school was named for either:
IDA MATTHEWS
daughter of Pete Matthews who was the first postmaster of Ida OR IDA ATKINSON mother of Gus Atkinson who lived in Ida and was an early State's Representative for Grayson County, Texas edited by Jerry B. Lincecum and Peggy A. Bradshaw 2005 page 160 In
the early 1900s, Ida had a one-room school building with a two-room
building constructed later. Eventually, a three-room school
building housed grades one through eleven. The building was also
used for community fund raising projects such as pie suppers and box
suppers.
Water was carried from a nearby well until the erection of the 'wash house'. The 'wash house' was a small building where students could drink from fountains and wash their hands from a trough that contained the overflow. Some of the teachers remembered are:
