J. T. Ford donated land for the
school building in October 1891. The new school building had
white clapboard walls and three tall windows with shutters on each
side. The native rock foundation was four feet high.
When the school bell rang, the students gathered at the front. Girls formed a line on the left of the steps and boys formed a line on the right. Inside were double desks. Across the front were long benches for classes. In the front of the building was a raised platform where children would give plays, spelling matches and say speeches. The building was also used as a church. The school was in operation from October 1891 to May 1957. by Marie Trout Hyde Park School History Schools Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson CountyTXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
