Grayson
Land School, the official name, was also known in the community as Lone
Star School. It was located in a farming area about 5 1/2 miles
southwest of Southmayd.
The playground was large enough to serve as a baseball diamond. However, there was one corner that was respected by the students and never used for playing because they had been told that a couple had been buried there although there was no tombstone marking the graves. Mr. Reagan would conduct arithmetic and spelling matches. The student remaining standing would receive a "head mark". During the 1925-1926 school term, Howard Ainsworth and Willie Guy Hatfield, the only two pupils in the sixth grade, each had a perfect spelling record. Teachers included:
