Until the second building was constructed, drinking water was carried from a residence across the road from the school.

A well was dug when the second schoolhouse was built by Cicero Drive, a very small man with a very long handle bar mustache. During the time the well was dug, students enjoyed watching the process. One time, while they were watching the well digging, some pranksters created some excitement by trimming the mane and hair from the old gray mare that belonged to the Donahue boys. The Donahues were very angry. The guilty culprits were not known for several years.

These pranksters could, also, be the ones who locked a teacher in the outhouse for several hours.
