The Denison Herald Wednesday, August 4, 1976 M.M. Marshall, Wife Honored in Dallas M.M. Marshall and his wife were honored in Dallas at a reception in the lounge of the administration building at Christian Schools, Inc., Sunday with several speakers paying tribute to their lives and service in the field of education. Among speakers were Hulen Jackson, another Denisonian who graduated in 1931 from DHS and was business manager of the Yellow Jacket dedicated to Marshall that year. He is now a minister of the Church of Christ in Duncanville. Other Church of Christ ministers included Elmer Morgan of Military Parkway Church of Christ and R.J. Fuller of Elam Road Church of Christ. Other speakers paying tribute to Mr. Newman Smith, former principal of Denison High, under whom Mr. Marshall served, and Marshall's younger half-sister, Mrs. Minnie Dunn, who flew from Louisville, Kentucky to honor her brother, W.C. "Dub" Hatfield, formerly of Denison, now a bank official in Dallas, also spoke. Frank Alexander, a co-ordinator of education in Dallas, was master of ceremonies. Marshall taught 42 years in public schools of Texas with 40 of these in Denison. After retirement from public school teaching, he taught full-time in private Christian schools 7 years, 7 in Dallas Christian Schools, Inc. He retired again in 1964, but for a few years did some substitute teaching and tutoring for Christian Schools. The Marshalls are being honored by having a room named for them in the new Biblical Studies Center to house the Institute Family Development. The speakers for the reception said the Marshalls are "the epitome of the Christian home and family, a classic example of the type of family development nurtured in this program at Christian Schools, Inc." A number of friends of the Marshalls have donated to C.S.I. to help build this room. Mrs. Marshall was a substitute teacher in C.S.I. and helps with the Associates for Christian Education, a woman's group which helps support the C.S.I. system. She has been an officer in the A.C.E. The reception was attended by some 80 or more people including relatives and friends of the Marshalls. Their children were present including Murray, Jr., a minister of the Church of Christ in Honey Grove, and his wife, Geraldine; Mrs. N.E. Oliver of Duncanville and Mrs. Leamon Keele along with their husbands. The Marshall children are all DHS graduates. Among grandchildren present were Marilyn Marshall Peoples and her family who reside in Denison and Steve Oliver.
