DeVoigne District 87 was bordered by Denison on the southeast and by the South Gale district on the west. The school building was on the east line of the William Oldham Survey 919 in the northeast corner of land once owned by A. G. Steele.

The land for the school was donated by a Mr. DeVoigne with the assurance that no Catholic teachers would be employed.  The first building was built about 1880 and was a one-room school. As attendance grew, another room was added and two teachers with grades up to high school.  At one time, three teachers were needed. The P.T.A. was formed in the early 1940s.

A kitchen was added at the end of the hall with DeVoigne School being the third in the county to have a hot lunch program. Water was carried to the school. Later a well was dug.

A new school building was erected in 1947. It had four large rooms, a kitchen, several closets and a two halls. Mrs. Thelma Kinnamon and Mrs. Troy O'Barr were the school cooks.

Trustees were W. D. Horner, Charles Bengel, George Howard, George Reddick, J. A. Tapscott, Charles Pritchard, Wallace Howell, Ray Sockwell, Stanley Tapscott, W. H. Vest, Carl O'Dell, Pete Owens, Horace Foster.
