Sunday, July 5, 1903 pg. 3 CONDENSED HOME NEWS The Kaufman schoolhouse, west of Denison 2 miles, was set afire and burned last Saturday night. The loss about $1500; no insurance. The trustees of the school, Messrs. J.N. Funk, J.M. Jamison and S.P. Kaufman, have started a popular subscription to rebuild the school house and $200 has been subscribed. The building will be rebuilt at once. Some tracks leading away from the schoolhouse in a northwesterly direction were discovered and a party was dispatched to Colbert to secure the bloodhounds of Deputy Marshal A Davis. He was absent from home, however, and the party was unable to secure the dogs. The greatest humbugs that we know of are bloodhounds. They have been used in and around Denison for a number of years, and if they have ever caught a criminal we have never heard of it. Editor's Note: "Coffman" and "Kaufman" are 2 spellings for the same school but "Coffman" is apparently preferred.
