Mary
Eunyce Allen began her education in 1920 at Central Ward School.
At the young age of 8 years old, she was featured in The
Albuquerque Journal as possibly the "world's youngest bank president."
She was open for business before school, somewhere in the school
building, three days per week.
In
March 1921 school superintendents from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and
Louisiana met in the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas to support the
initiative of the "school government thrift bank idea," with the goal
that students would leave the classrooms prepared to earn their living
and be familiar with the fundamentals of business and practical
economics. Central Ward History Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson CountyTXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
