BETTER SCHOOLS FOR RURAL COMMUNITIES TALKED AT CELTIC
Citizens of the Celtic community, several miles southeast of Sherman, enjoyed an all-day get-together community meeting at Celtic school house Thursday.
Practically every one of the community attended the meeting during the day.  The forenoon was devoted to an informal social and get-acquainted time.  At noon the baskets of edibles which had been brought from the various homes were spread, and a home-cooked Thanksgiving feast enjoyed.  This was one of the most enjoyable parts of the program, both for the people of the community participating and the invited guests who were present.
Following the luncheon, a number of talks by both local residents and guests were heard. G.W. Holloway acted as presiding officer and introduced Rev. Wright, pastor of the Howe Methodist church, I.Q. Poindexter of Celtic, and John E. Surratt of Sherman, all of whom made talks.
Mr. Poindexter spoke on the rural school situation in Grayson County.  Taking the Celtic school as an example, he pointed out that while Celtic represented one of the best rural schools in the county, having met the necessary requirements to obtain the highest State aid given any school,  and while 3 competent teachers were employed, many Celtic citizens find it necessary to send their children out of the community to obtain even their complete elementary education.  The Celtic school having reached its highest efficiency as a community school, the only thing remaining is to consolidate, Mr. Poindexter said.
It was f urther pointed out by the speakers that Grayson county has 104 small rural schools, and that this number is too many.  Many could be consolidated to advantage to the people of the several communities.
