Prospects are unfolding nicely for a propitious beginning of the Carlisle
Military Academy in this city on the 23rd inst. The broken window panes in the main building
have been replaced and the structure otherwise repaired and overhauled. The other buildings and campus have also been
put in shape. Several young men students
have already arrived and others will come in time to start at the
beginning. Among those already here are,
Clifford Williams of Claude, Ward Payne of Grand Prairie, Ed, Rorie and Rall
Cowden
of Midland, and Douglas Johnston of Emet, Oklahoma. The latter is the son of ex-Governor Johnston
of the Chickasaw Nation. The Sun also
learns that several young men of the city will matriculate at the
institution. But in this connection
Superintendent Carlisle says that it is not his custom to solicit pupils
locally; his profession being similar to that of a physician, he does not
consider it good usage to canvass for pupils in his home town. He has been teaching in Texas since 1880 and
has always adhered to this rule. Of
course, he has an office and office hours and will gladly meet and explain the
work to those desiring information with a view of sending to his school. He would do this anywhere that is convenient
for one to see him. The institution will
have a strong faculty, as will be seen from an advertising folder printed for
distribution. The curriculum includes
Latin, Greek, English, Science, Mathematics, Physical Culture, History,
Military Tactics and Science, and Spanish.
Those who complete course may enter the State University direct and
complete the literary course in two years.
