The
first time that the Little Rock School was in danger was when the Pilot
Grove district was about to loose its school district due to a drop in
enrollment. They thought that Little Rock School would be their
salvation. When the prospect of being consolidated into the Pilot Grove
District, a group gathered and measured the distance. It was a little
more than the required number of miles to allow the district to keep
the school.
The next, and final threat to the school was when the Little Rock enrollment dropped. A community meeting was held and called to order by president of the board, E. W. "Chicken" Fields. He called for suggestions. Mr. J. G. Sloan rose and said, "Me and Laura are getting so old, the only thing I know that we could do is to order us some children from Sears Roebuck." The Whitewright school district was facing the same problem of a decrease in enrollment. Little Rock was consolidated into the Whitewright district. The Little Rock community was allowed to keep the building. by Pansy Miller Blanks School History Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson County TXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
