John G. Barron, born 1831, in Lee County, Va., served in the Civil War and came to Texas in the 1870s, died 1887. He married Margaret McElroy. They had 15 children. Their home and large farm was northwest of Tioga and southwest of Collinsville, near the Grayson County - Cooke County line.

This community was named for Mr. Barron who donated land for the cemetery, where he was later buried, and also land for a church and school.

The Barron school was said to have begun classes about 1875 and was closed about 1941 - 1942. The pupils transferred to Tioga or Collinsville schools. There is record of at least two additional buildings built on this property. The land was later to the Henry Henderson farm nearby.

Other early pioneers in this community were the Halls, Worshams, Davises, Jenkins, Sinclairs and Maglaughlins.

Known teachers were – Mr. H. P. Vaughan, Miss Ella Hutton, Mr. Bruce Tarr, Miss Alma Freece, Miss Nora Blair, Bazie Moncrief, Sallie Graham, Otto King, Miss Vera Jenkins, Miss Vera Myers and Miss Mollie Williams.
