Geo. C. F. Butte Geo.
C. F. Butte, A.B., professor of modern languages and principal of the
preparatory department, is an alumnus of Austin College, being the
first honor man of the class of '95. After gradating from college, Mr.
Butte engaged in teaching, and soon became recognized as one of the
most gifted young teachers in the State. His ready pen and eloquent
voice quickly marked him as a man of extraordinary powers. His activity
extended far beyond the class room, and he became a prominent figure in
several state organizations. Two years ago he was elected to the
responsible office of trustee of the college, and a year ago he was
invited to the chair which he now occupies with such splendid credit to
himself and to his alma mater. Professor Butte has done graduate work
of a very high order in the University of Chicago and also at
Washington, D. C. He is an illustration of what a young man of pluck
and ambition may accomplish in a marvelously short time. The college
honors itself in honoring such alumni.
