Prof. J. L. Bell Prof.
J. L. Bell, professor of Greek and Latin in Austin College, is a native
Texan, "to the manor born" and he carries into his chosen work those
qualifications that characterize all successful citizens of the Lone
Star State. Yet a young man, he has completed the A.B. course at
Hampden Sidney College, Virginia, and during the eight years that he
has been connected with Austin College has built up one of the
strongest Greek courses in the State, having assumed the Latin work
only this year. Firm conviction, unwavering ideas of right and justice,
quick at grasping situations, withal considerate of the highest
interests of the individual student, Prof. Bell is recognized as one of
the strongest men of his department in the state. His demand of the
student a high sense of honor, careful attention to the preparation of
class work, uniform courtesy, the fact that Austin College graduates
have had full recognition of their degrees at the University of
Tennessee, University of Virginia, Princeton, and elsewhere, is due in
a large measure to the thoroughness of work done in this particular
department. He has been a pillar of the college for some years, and the
institution is indebted to him more, possibly, than is supposed by its
best friends. Austin College History Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson County TXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
