COLORED HIGH SCHOOL
Held Commencement Exercises at BrooksTone Airdome
Denison, June 9 - The commencement exercises of the Anderson high school, colored, were held Wednesday night at the BrooksTone theatre.  A large audience of Negroes and a number of white people, including the school board, attended.  Four rows were reserved for the white patrons of the schools.
The invocation was delivered by Rev. J.C. Carter and following was a chorus, "Hearts As Light As Air."  The salutatory was by Carrie V. Garland on the subject, "Courage to Meet Life's Duties."  A double duet, "Springtime," was sung by Tommie L. Jones, Addene E. Williams, Myrna Walker and Gussie Ellison.
In addition to several other musical numbers which were excellent, the following literary numbers were given by the graduates:
Oration, "The Fault Is In You," Pleasant E. Giles
Oration, "Immortality of Good Deeds," Adden E. Williams
Oration, "Cast Your Buckets Down Where You Are," Thomas E. Grant
Valedictory "Decisive Victory," Laura A. Giles
The diplomas were presented to the graduates by W.J. Mathis, member of the school board.  Mr. Mathis congratulated the members of the class upon the excellent show that they have made during their school life and declared that it is a source of much gratification to the school board.  He referred to the great benefits to be derived from an education, such as the graduates had attained, but declared that education without economy, honesty, perseverance and morality will avail little.
The members of the graduating class are:

Carrie V. Garland
Laura A. Giles
Thomas E. Grant
Virginia A. Joshua
Alfred H. Smith
