The Denison News Thursday, July 17, 1873 (From the Daily of the 11th) ORGANIZATION OF LONE STAR LODGE As had been previously announced Wednesday night the 9th inst., Lone Star Lodge, A.F. & A.M., of Denison, was organized. Some twenty or more brethren from Sherman came up on the noon train, and during the evening District Deputy Grand Master D.J. Eddleman accompanied by Wm. McClain, arrived from Whitesboro. The lodge was filled at an early hour, there being nearly 100 Master Masons present. The Lodge was opened in due form, District Deputy Grand Master Eddleman in the East. Brother Bradbury of Sherman occupying the West and Brother McLain the South. The ceremonies of organization were conducted by the Distrct Deputy Grand Master, in a manner dignified and impressive. The charter members of Lone Star Lodge are as follows; John W. Jennings, Master J.C. Feild, Senior Warden Geo. J. Dexter, Junior Warden and Brothers L.W. Shepherd, Wellington McCullock, B.C. Murray, D.D. Dawson, M.C. Clark, W.J. Jennings, E.S. Aston, W.D. Kirk and John S. Day The three officers above named received the appointment from the Grand Lodge of the State. The following were elected: A.B. Bowman, secretary B.C. Murray, Treasurer W McCullock, Senior Deacon Max Grundstein, Junior Deacon H. Harman, Tyler F.R. Brown and J. Olney, Stewarts After the ceremonies of organization, the Lodge was called from labor to refreshments, and all the brethren repaired to an adjoining room where long tables groaned beneath a load of good things for the inner man. The lunch was partaken of with gusto by all. After the repast came the wine, and the popping of corks kept merry time with the clink of glasses. Toasts were drank freely and often and all went merrily. Speeches were made, congratulations exchanged, wit sparkled on the lips of staid men, and everybody looked happy. The lunch was gotten up in magnificent style by that popular caterer to the palate, Chicet of the French Restaurant. Several varieties of meats graced the table, salads, cake in variety and nuts and fruits in profusion - an elegant lunch for which the proprietor deserves much credit. We have seen but few such pleasant reunions as was that of Wednesday night. The event is one long to be remembered. Visiting brethren departed the next day, and we trust with a favorable impression of Denison's liberality and friendship.
