Sunday, February 13, 1898 pg. 4 DAUGHTERS OF THE CONFEDERACY A Large Chapter Organized Sunday Evening The regular meeting of Denison Camp United Confederate Veterans took place at G.A.R. hall at 3 o'clock Sunday evening. As it had been announced that Miss Curry, of Dallas, would be present to organize a local chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy, there was a large attendance of ladies. Miss Curry was unable to be present, but after the routine business of the camp was disposed of Mrs. Mattie Collins, who had been elected temporary chairman by the ladies at a previous meeting, took the chair and the organization of Denison Chapter was perfected by electing the following officers by ballot: Mrs. Sam Hanna, Sr. president Mrs. Thomas Darby, vice-president Mrs. Thos. Hume, senior vice president Miss Laura Wilds, secretary Mrs. Genevieve Shearer, corresponding secretary Mrs. R.L. Causey, treasurer The Charter will cost $3, which the Denison Camp with commendable gallantry donated out of their treasury. The membership fee of the D. of C. is only 25 cents, and monthly dues 5 cents. About 70 ladies have already enrolled their names, and they expect to soon have a membership of 100. All mothers, wives, daughters and nieces of ex-Confederate soldiers are eligible, and every one in Denison should put in her application. The ladies are very enthusiastic for the success of the Chapter. ORGANIZATIONS Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson County TXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
