Confederate Verterans Grayson County, Texas Dallas Morning News September 28, 1897 Meeting of Old Comrades Sherman, Tex., Sept. 25 - J.P. Harris of Linden, Cass County, and Dr. D.A. Simmons of this city met for the first time in thirty years today and the scene was an affecting one, both strong old battle-scarred soldiers of the lost cause weeping for joy. They were playmates fifty years ago in South Carolina. They went to the same school, were in the same classes. Joined the army and served in the same company, ate in the same mess or went hungry in it, as the case oftener was. They were both wounded in the leg, got over it, came back to service together and fought it out together to the surrender. At the close of the war Harris stood up as "best man" with his old comrade, Simmons, congratulated him and they parted to meet again today.
