January 25, 1941 Civil War Veteran To Fete 97th Birthday Van Alstyne, Texas, Jan. 24 - N.M. Davis, Van Alstyne's oldest citizen and probably the only surviving Civil War veteran in this immediate vicinity, will hold open house Sunday at his home in celebration of his ninety-seventh birthday. He came to Texas seventy years ago and settled first at Pilot Grove, later moving to Van Alstyne. He enlisted at the age of 17.
