Virginia Point Methodist Church The Whitewright Sun Thursday, June 10, 1926 pg. 8 VIRGINIA POINT HOME COMING WAS GREAT GATHERING Approximately 1,500 persons attended the home coming services at the Virginia Point community Methodist Church, north of Bells Sunday. The all day services were featured by reunions of old friends, church services, dinner on the ground and other social events. Many towns of North Texas and Southern Oklahoma were represented. The services were opened in the morning with regular Sunday School service, which was followed by a sermon by Rev. D.F. Fuller, who was pastor of the Virginia Point Church more than 50 years ago. The Virginia Point Methodist Church is considered one of the oldest, if not the oldest, churches of its denomination in North Texas. Rev. Fuller preached at Preston Bend before Denison was founded and was among the first ministers to hold services in the Gate City. Rev. Fuller's talk was along reminiscent lines. Many of the old settlers of the community, who assisted in building the church and were among the first members, were present and enjoyed Rev. Fuller's talk. Four of five of the old ministers of the church were present and made short talks at various times throughout the day. Chief of the latter named was Uncle John Reynolds, 95 yars old, who recalled some of the happenings of the community almost a half a century ago. Rev. C.M. Simpson, presiding elder of the Sherman district, was also present. Although the Virginia Point church is a Methodist institution, members of all faiths were present and welcomed old friends who had not met in many years.
