The
first state of construction was an A-shaped structure with open sides
and a roof to be used during the summer months. The dedication services
were held on April 19, 1962. It was voted to continue services
during the fall and winter months in the home of Burt Jordon. The
average attendance was 21. Another building program was begun in the spring of 1963. The A-shaped building was enclosed with the labor being done by the men of the congregation. The dedication service for the completed building was on October 6, 1963. At the close of the revival held in August 1967, the mortgage papers were burned. The indebtedness was paid off. The steering committee met on February 27, 1971 and, again, approved plans for additions to the present building. The plans for the addition of a fellowship hall, kitchen, and restrooms were drawn up by John Engle. The Session of Westminister Church approved the plans on March 7. The following week, the Sherwood Shores congregation voted to build the additions and pledged $6,000. Lynn Hightower was hired as the contractor and builder. On June 2, 1971, the dedication service was held in the new Thurman Fellowship Hall. The loan for the Fellowship Hall was paid off in December 1971. An addition was built on the north side of the Thurman Fellowship Hall in 1982. The three rooms added served as a library, conference room, and storage room. Gifts given by church members include office equipment, musical instruments, kitchen equipment, outside attractions, room furnishings, etc. Sherwood Shores Presbyterian Chapel History Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson County TXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
