Sandusky Community The
first pastor was C. W. Rogers. The Session Book has records of
thirty pastors serving the Sandy Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church
for 97 years. The church was unable to provide a home or an
adequate yearly salary for a resident pastor so many pastors lived and
worked elsewhere, often traveling many to minister to the congregation
on Sunday. Rev. Alba Bates resided in Collinsville and hitchhiked to the Sandusky Community to hold Sunday services from 1923 to 1927. Sometimes he would walk most of the distance of 18 to 20 miles. Rev. Homer Gentry lived in Arkansas. He traveled to the church during the years of 1955 and 1956. Rev. Harold Johnson lived and owned a business in Grand Prairie. He served as pastor from 1949-1952, 1962-1963, and from 1980 until his death in July 1984. He was eighty years of age. During his last ministry, he and his wife, Ruth Allen Johnson, moved to Whitesboro from Grand Prairie. During the final months of his life, he was in extremely poor health. May times he addressed his congregation from a sitting position. Mr. Johnson gave his life to the ministry at the age of nineteen, serving in this capacity until his death. Rev. Paul Capehart served the church from 1953-1955 and 1966-1974. During these years, he, also, taught at the Dallas Theological Seminary. He commuted every week with his wife and children. Current officers in charge of the Sandy Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church are Rev. Bob Northcutt, pastor, and ruling elders Bob Davis, John Dennis, Billy Fox, Jack Harwell, Tom Hughes, Bill Morrow and J. B. Scarbrough. Ministers who have served the church are as follows:
