Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church
1872 to 1972

Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church was founded in 1872.  In 1879 land was donated for the church, school and cemetery by David H. Coffman, Sr. and Joseph Layne.  The one-room log cabin that was built in this area served as church and school and later developed into the Layne School.  In 1922 the church moved 240? West Walker and then to 1, then in 1946 to its present location on West Morton.  The original building there was destroyed by fire, and the sanctuary which is now the educational section was built in 1951.  In August 1966 a new sanctuary was built.
Mr. Pleasant is affiliated with the American Baptist Association, Missionary Baptist Association of Texas and Grayson County Ladnmark Baptist Association.  The church supports all phases of mission work through these affiliations and supports Christian education through the Texas Baptist Institute at Henderson, Texas.
