KENTUCKYTOWN CHURCH ONE OF AREA'S OLDEST
One of the first churches formed in the Whitewright area was the Kentuckytown Baptist Church.
The church was found in 1853 by a group of Kentucky pioneers who settled in what is now known as Kentuckytown.  They came by wagon train and formed the church upon their arrival.
When the railroads came through the area in the 1870s, it was these settlers who moved their businesses a few miles east and helped populate the newly formed town of Whitewright.
Whitewright prospered while Kentuckytown dwindled in population.  But the church and a few homes remained.  In 1904 the present building of the Kentuckytown Baptist Church was erected.
The Texas State Historical Survey Committee recognized the church as an area landmark and erected a Texas Historical Landmark Marker in 1966.
The church still holds regular weekly congregational meetings.
