Hughes Baptist Chapel Hughes
Baptist Chapel was located at the base of Thorn Hill in the lower
Deleware Bend area. A revival was held there under a brush
arbor about 1912 with Mr. Hughes, a Baptist minister, officiating.
Due to the large number in attendance, it was decided to
organize into a church body. A building was constructed and
named Hughes Chapel. Mr. Hughes was named pastor.
Families that helped organized and build Hughes Chapel were: Thorn, Ragsdale, Goodin, Dick, Anderson, Holiday as well as John and Emma Long. The church existed about eight years when the building was destroyed by fire. There was so much disagreement that existed among the members that the church was disbanded and never rebuilt.
