Hebron Baptist Church

According to the oldest records available, the Hebron Baptist Church was established July 2, 1842.  For a short time, services were held under a brush arbor on the Davenport property (Loveless Estate). At this time the presbytery consisted of John Hendrix and William Richardson.  Services were held twice a month.

On September 17, 1842, Hebron Baptist Church was received by letter at the eighth session of the Appalachee Baptist Association.  The church reported two baptized and ten members.

1844
Hebron Baptist Church asked to be dismissed from the Appalachess Baptist Association and united with the Mulberry Baptist Assoication.
Property was obtained and a new white frame building was constructed on the current church site.

1911
Church membership was 171.
Sunday School enrollment was 65.
Church building was valued at $1,000.

1919
Church building constructed in 1906 was blown from its foundation in a wind storm of April 1919.  Services were discontinued until 1936, due to lack of interest.

November 2, 1930
$44 was received from the sale of the first bale of cotton from the church cotton crop.  The money was credited to the Young Peoples Sunday School Class as a building fund.

1941

Services were held once again by Rev. Frank Shirley.

October 1957
Rev. J. O. McNeal was called as the first full-time pastor.

1959
Sunday School rooms, a fellowship hall and kitchen were added.

1969
The church voted to build a new auditorium, costing approximately $65,000 - $70,000.

October 11, 1971
100th Anniversary

August 1978
Rev. Larry Wynn was called as pastor.
The average Sunday School attendance was 116.

1980
A Sunday School annex, fellowship hall and kitchen were added.

September 1983
Two morning services were begun.

1989
A 1100 seat auditorium was completed. An additional 600 seats were added in 1995.

1998
The church purchased Northeast Atlanta Christian School and changed the name to Hebron Christian Academy.

March 2006
Hebron Baptist Church held its first service in the new 4000 seat Worship Center.
