Music Street Church of Christ
Sherman, Texas

In the early 1850s, the Sherman Church existed in Sherman, Texas.  During the post Civil War years, the congregation met in downtown buildings.

The first building was erected at the corner of Houston and Montgomery Streets.
The second building stood until being destroyed by fire in 1999.   The Montgomery Street Church of Christ prospered and grew to approximately five hundred members.

In 1920, a new building was erected at the corner of Walnut and Cherry Streets.

The elders of Walnut St. Church of Christ sponsored a movement to establish a church among the Black citizens of Sherman, Texas in 1938.  R. N. Hogan and John S. Winston held a tent-revival which resulted in thirty baptisms.  Bro. Winston was the first minister of the church which met in a house.

In 1945, with help from the Walnut St. Church of Christ, a rock building was erected on Music Street and the congregation was known as the Music St. Church of Christ.  At the time of this writing, the rock building still stood but was home to another religious body.
