Cedar Methodist Church

In approximately 1940, the church congregation had become smaller. The building erected in 1891 was remodeled and a smaller building was erected.

Early in the morning of May 20, 1960, a tornado destroyed the church buildiing. At a meeting held the following Sunday, the decision to rebuild was made. Funds were donated and re-building was started immediately with Lewis Fogle, C. A. Cain, B. E. Perkins, Ivan Reynolds and Oscar Wetzel elected as a building committee.  Wallace Hamilton was hired as head carpenter with 50% of the work being done by members and friends of the church.

Bro. H. P. Williamson was pastor at the time. Bro. William Davis served during June and July. Bro. Ed Suttor filled in during August. Bro. Joe McClain came in September, serving Bells as a full time pastor and Cedar half-time.

Services were held in the new building on the 20th of July before its completion. Dedication services were held on October 16, 1960 with Bro. Philip Walker, District Superintendent, officiating at the dedication services. Offerings from the various churches in the Sherman-McKinney District and members of the congregation put the church out of debt.
