Cedar Methodist Church

Mr. & Mrs. B. M. Carr deeded seven acres of land to be used as a Camp Ground. It was used for summer revivals. For two weeks each year this was the Mecca for the people from miles around. Tents were pitched under trees. An arbor was built first as a brush covered one. A permanent one which was shingled and would seat a large number of people was later built.

Daily Sketch of the Daily Program:
  • Early in the morning a bugle call would assemble the people for prayers and, afterwards, breakfast.
  • Regular services were held at 10:00 a.m.
  • Dinner served from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
  • Rest period was from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
  • Grove Meeting began at 5:00 p.m.
  • Supper hour came at 6:00 p.m. with evening services at early candle light.

One of the high-lights of these old-time camp meetings was held by Rev. Joe Jones, brother of the noted evangelist, Sam Jones.

The camp ground meetings were discontinued in 1914. The land was sold to J. W. Frazier for $250.00, which was given to the church.
