Sherman, Tex., Oct. 17 - A few Sundays since the congregation at the
Second
Baptist church was surprised by the pastor, Rev. J. A. Ivey, reading an
open
letter containing his resignation. The congregation very
promptly refused
to listen to it, and not until the
pastor had urgently requested it would they
let the matter go into the hands of a regular committee.
To-day the
resignation was not only set aside, but by a vote of a ratio exceeding
ten to
one the congregation called him to remain as pastor for another year.
This afternoon at his study Rev. Mr. Ivey said to The News
correspondent:
"You can say that in all probability I will accept the call."
This testimonial of the respect and confidence his congregation
entertains for
this worthy pastor finds a hearty echo in the hearts of the whole
community,
where he is esteemed as a Christian gentleman and a good citizen.
